1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? ....Brand new to the sport of chicken raising. Started my first flock a month ago with a borrowed brooder box, a "chicken mentor", and a year's worth of research.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?....GRAND TOTAL of 26: 20 mail ordered chicks are 4 weeks old, 4 added chicks purchased locally (thanks for shorting my order, hatchery!) are 2 weeks old, plus 2 added rescue RIR pullets not quite sure of age, older, but not laying yet.
(3) What breeds do you have? 4 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Australorps (RIP one baby down in shipment), 3 Welsummers, 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 3 Golden Laced Wyandottes, 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Partridge Rocks, 3 Rhode Island Reds and 2 RIR "teenagers".
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? ... Researching the web! Was looking for info on ACV in drinking water and Google directed me to BYC.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? ...Golfing, sailing, Hiking/snowshoeing, skiing, gardening, fitness, Fly Fishing ~ most every outdoor sport; I play hard and don't mind getting dirty.......and indoor, sewing/quilting.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. ...RN, Health Fitness Specialist, Personal Trainer, Married and really enjoy my DH's company when he's off the golf course, Mom of 2 musically-talented, fantastic teenage boys, one well-behaved black Labrador whose namesake is the lovely Farmington River in CT, and 1000 red wriggler worms in the composting backyard worm farm.
Thanks for having me join your group! I hope to learn a lot from fellow chicken peeps. I'm loving the mess so far.....
