Hello, I'm Heather.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We're completely new to chickens! I've considered it every year for a few years but I didn't think it was legal here and I never checked into it until this year.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We don't have any right now. We're looking for some young hens but I have to go to the feed store for supplies today and I fully expect to end up with chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

We are looking to get Australorps and/or Silkies. I'm sure we'll end up with several breeds in years to come though.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I found out about it a couple years ago and only half-heartedly looked around. A friend mentioned it to me and I decided to start looking since I'm serious about it this year. It's been a tremendous help!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I like to sew, cook, and bike.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a great partner named Matt. Marriage isn't a top priority for us but we've set a date (9-15-2012) because I would like to have the same last name as our children. We have a 3 year old son named Colin and a 4 month old daughter named Lyra. We also have a sweet, gentle German Shepherd mix named Leo. I'm currently a SAHM slowly working toward my Bachelor's in nursing. After I earn that, I'm going to enter a CNM progran and I'll soon be starting the process to become a certified lactation consultant. At the rate I'm going, I'll be a perpetual student.

from a fellow buckeye. Good luck to you on getting your education. You picked a great field. My DD (which is dear daughter) graduated with a bachelor in nursing in 2008 and is now working at Cleveland Clinic.
