Excited to post for the first time on this forum that I've surfed a billion times already! I have endured plenty of "are you crazy" looks from fellow urbanites who are shocked that I am raising a backyard flock here in the city, but I hope to make many converts in the future! I do have supportive co-workers who have come to my house for a "coop-raising" party. We have a gorgeous coop that is everything I wanted! Will post pictures at some point. My good friend's husband got me hooked on chickens when I "chicken-sat" for them while they were on vacation. Fresh eggs...yummmm!
Currently I have 7 week pullets that just got moved into the coop this weekend- 2 BO's and 2 EEs. My kids have named them Dora, Gadget, Goldie and Pet Chicken. This is what you get when you let a 4 year old and 3 y.o. name the chickens.
Two questions:
I was wondering if there are any fellow city dwellers in the area that know of good sources for feed and supplies. I have been going to Half Moon Bay Feed and Fuel, but they are quite a drive away.
On a different note, I have 2 straight run Silkies that are 4 weeks old I'm trying to find a good home for. If anyone in the area is interested, please send me an e-mail reply through my craigslist listing. I'd be willing to give them to someone from this forum for free. I just don't want them to become soup. Pokus and Buffy have been on organic starter and have been loved on since day one. I broke my ankle last week, and though I am very sad about it, I feel that I need to let them go to keep my husband's sanity intact. He didn't sign up for chicken duty, but now that I'm not mobile with my cast, he has kid care, wife care, AND chicken care. He's been very good, but this will be a good faith effort on my part to reduce his stress. Here's my listing:
