I just joined backyardchickens. We bought 21 hens and 2 roosters (all chicks) this spring (breeds: Rhode Island Red, Welsummer, Dominique, Golden Laced Wyandote, Americauna). We lost one chick in the first week and up until an incident with our dog a week ago, we had no more fatalities. We now have 18 hens and 2 roosters. It's been a lot of fun watching and learning as we go and get a kick out of our feathered friends. I look forward to gleaning from everyone else here and sharing ideas and stories!
