Hi there everyone. I've been lurking without registration for month, planning for the day that I got some chicks. We just moved from Silicon Valley up to the Sierra Foothills, and within three days, I bought my first ever chickens. I have 8 Jersey Giants who are living in a wire dog crate. The first two weeks have gone well - they now come running to my sing song and love the lettuce, plain yogurt, grapes, meat, ckd rice, etc that I give them as treats. One even climbs up my hand and arm! I hope that this one is not a rooster!
My old cattle dog has a high prey drive, so she will be a worry. The other two dogs: one doesn't care and the Border Collie pup wants to be in the crate with them! Course its his crate that I am using for the chicks. I don't think that our orange cat who is a mouser/birder has bothered them and Fat Cat Lea is more interested in laying around begging for food than anything else!!
