Hi there! hope to learn lots here even if I can't keep chickens in my township. Birds just fascinate me.

Hi and

Thanks for the welcome.I hope to investigate this matter this week, I live in a rural area more or less Salem County. I don't see why not. My former neighbor had two small goats. Anyway I love birds. As you can see by my handle I want to be prepared for any contingency. My husband and I have decided to be as self sufficient as possible. Raising chickens will be our first step.I'm just trying to educate myself about these feathery critters. Thanks in advance for answering any goofy questions for a total newbie!

I have been surfing the net for info and I found something called the right to farm. We are trying to save our farmland here in South Jersey. If I understand the document correctly yes I can keep chickens yay!! So just to be sure I'll be calling the township for clarification. I am so excited. Thanks again for the welcome.

Or you could just keep them illegally. I know of people who do--I scared a poor woman on Halloween by poking around in her chicken coop and then asking her questions about her banties while my daughter and her friends received candy. I had forgotten that village zoning doesn't allow for chickens!

A lot of people manage to get legalized chickens through grassroots campaigns too.
