Hi Everyone,

I am completely new to Chickens and just in the process of designing a coup and run, I'm finding BYC fantastic, lots of information, If anyone has any has opinions on what's best to have, Bantams or Chickens, i would love hear them,

thanks Martyn

Hi welcome to BYC

im in London

bantams or LF is your choice really

I prefer LF as the eggs are bigger

but then the bantams I just started with and boy are the birds and eggs cute

plus great for scotch eggs

and the cockerels aren't as loud when they crow

LF or bantams can be good with kids if you get the right breed so its not always necessary that small means less mean and LF can be sweethearts too

so you need to decide what you want them from and take it from there

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

Good luck on your choice of breed. Check out the breeds tab at the top of the page! May help in your decision

To start with is it best to have chicks or Chickens?
because its June

I say chicken so you can have them laying by July

chicks wont lay now till at least November

and with British weather they may miss the cold and start next year feb

it happened to me this year

my last May chicks did not start to lay till march this year
