(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Fairly new, adopted a few older hens for bug/weed control in my garden last summer and things progressed from there.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Now I have 8. 4 laying, three retired and in henopause, and one rooster. Also have 2 muscovy hens, one with three adopted ducklings and one currently sitting on eggs.

(3) What breeds do you have?
No idea. Well, I know that two are Chanteclers, and one is barred rock, but other than that I have two reddish brown ones and two black ones.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, cooking

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Single, I live rurally with my 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 snake, and now the chickens and ducks. I'm a volunteer firefighter and a field service tech for payment companies. Going back to school in September to get some bookkeeping education.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Every time I've Googled, the answers from this site show up first and have been helpful!

Just when I'm ready to leave the BYC site and do chores, I run across an introduction that I can't resist! Love that you are keeping your "henopause" girls, and I, too, live single and rurally with all the critters you have and more -- except the snake. On the other hand, I am a big fan of snakes and, as a child, used to rescue them from my mother who wanted to hack them to death when they showed up in the yard.

The volunteer firefighting proves you are much braver than I, and I admire you for getting some additional education. More education is always a good thing.

Welcome to the community! Enjoy!!
