My name is Fern and I love my chickens. When we moved to the country about 6 yrs ago the first thing I did was order some chickens. I ordered 35 and ended up with about 80 (long story). Our flock grew over the years to over 150 hens and roosters. We got to be the house for wayward chickens. I'd find new ones wandering around the property from time to time. I think the people around here used to drop off unwanted chickens knowing we'd take them in. A move to Texas in early 2011 forced us to give away my babies. They went to a good home where they could free range happily. A year later and we moved back home to MS and I got a new batch of babies in March. I have 25 beautiful ladies, a mixture of breeds, I ordered them for the egg colors and quality. I also have 10 baby guineas (I am a gluton for punishment). I love talking about my chickens and hopefully I am raising them in a happy and healthy enviroment. My oldest daughter is a vet and I am teaching her about chicken care. Between my mini goat farm and my chickens, my life is full, my life is good. My chickens make me smile.

Hi and :welcome

Sounds awesome!! Good to have something that can make you smile. :old That's pretty cool that you used to take in stray chicks. :p 150, that's a huge flock. I hope everything goes well with your new birds!

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. :D

You wrote such a nice introduction!! I am glad you joined us!! With your experience, you can probably teach us some new tricks. Over the years, I am coming to discover that most vets know nothing about poultry. It's wonderful that your daughter has taken an interest. It should help her alot in her practice.

Nice to meet you and hope to see you around!!
