(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens on my own this year. My grandmother use to raise chickens but I hardly remember anything but playing in the yard with her flock. I got my first two chicks last week and expect 15 more in April.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have two 1/2 white Leghorns of unknown sex and expect a straight run of 15 Rhode Island Reds April 7-8th.
(3) What breeds do you have? (See above)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I heard about you from a web search some time ago when I tried my hand at homesteading several years ago...still here and still doing what I can to convert to full self-sufficiency.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I love genealogy, the outdoors, a little stamp collecting/coin collecting, and anything to do with learning new things.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a stay to home entrepreneur and run a rooming house. I have two dogs. Dollie is 9 this year and Spike is about 7. Both were rescues. We plan on getting our first piglets and a cow this year too as well as getting my garden quite a bit bigger. Would love to be completely self-sufficient but the homesteading/modern mix we live currently is a good life. I love to help others (including my animal friends) and have the complete support of my other half. We're both a bit old-fashioned I suppose...ha-ha
