I have enjoyed lurking around this site for a while now and thought I may as well join. I am retired and getting back to my agricultural roots. I have always kept my hands in farming but never made a significant portion of my income from it. We had chickens off and on when the children were growing up but have not had any for over 20 years until now. I saw a ad on CL for some nice started pullets for a good price and could not resist, I was even able to trade dry shavings from my woodworking shop as partial payment. Anyway I am here to learn and contribute.

7 of them are golden comet 5 of them the seller called reds the red feathers are a little darker than the comets and they have some black feathers around the neck and tail they are definitely a bigger bird than the comets. I really don't know for sure how old they are the CL ad said 6 weeks old when I got them on July 1. They are just starting to develop some wattles and are getting a little color to their combs. I cannot free range them as we are loaded with predators but they have a 50 sq ft house with a run of the same size. They are eating a bunch of weeds and surplus greens from the garden and seem to all be pecking the grit I have in a small feeder. They sure don't eat much grower crumbles as long as I keep up with my garden weeding.
