My 6 new babies survived the night! Actually they did better than I did, up to check the brooder temp at 2AM, fretting the rest of the time. 1 quick question, temp was down to 80 at 2am so I put on both the red and reg 250 W lamps (dog cage covered in cardboard, 20 in tall from bedding to lamps on top). Brooder in a semi-insulated garage. They seem ok. Thanks!

from South Africa! I think your chicks will be fine, though just try not to have the temperature near cooking!

from Ohio. So glad you joined. One 250 heat lamp is fine for 6 chicks. Place a thermometer on the floor under the heat lamp. Raise or lower until you reach 95 degrees. I place my lamp toward one end of the brooder, so that way there is room to get away from the heat is they want to.
