Hello everyone. We survived our first winter with chickens very well and decided to do some major upgrades to our coop and flock. We started with 3 hens and have added 9 new chicks this week. Our hens are now living in their new spacious 8x8x6tall coop with an attached 10x10 run. I whitewashed the old 8x4 coop for the chicks and they are thriving in there. Unfortunately one of our hens died the day after the coop transfer, she was the family favorite so we are all pretty bummed. I have a 4year old and 2year old boys who are great chicken lovers. My 4yo collects eggs with me in the morning and enjoys doing his chicken chores with me. I'll post photos of the chicks as they grow. The rooster who sired them is a blue cochin with the lovely feathered legs and all my chicks have feathered legs. I'm so excited to see how beautifully they grow!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the loss of your hen :hugs Good luck with the new chicks!

Thank you. I'm going through the breed page now and I'm loving it. I can't find a lot of the breeds listed locally but maybe I'll order something from out of state when I'm ready to increase my flock in the future. Thank you for an awesome site and great information.

I'm glad you joined our "flock!"

Good luck with your chickens!

You can locate and post on your state thread at "where am I, where are you." Maybe someone near you has other breeds to offer. One member "Alaskan," raises chickens and is very active on the "Old Folks Home" thread ( you don't need to be old to join). There are many other living in Alaska as well.
