Hi everyone! My family just placed an order for four baby chicks to be delivered in about a month so while we don't have any chickens now they're on the way and we're very excited. We've ordered a Barred Rock, a Buff Orpington, a Welsummer, and an Easter Egger. In addition to the four chicks we've ordered we're also getting a polish hen from a relative to save her from the bullying she's experiencing with her current flock so if anyone has any tips on integrating her with our younger ones that would be greatly appreciated.

We've been obsessively reading through the forums on this site and feel like we're as prepared as we can be without actually having chickens right now but would love to hear anybody's last minute advice that we might not have read and we're really looking forward to getting to know more of the BYC community :D

Welcome to BackYard Chickens! Thanks for joining! :frow

It might be possible to let your hen raise the chicks you're getting, as long as she's comfortable with it. Are you getting the hen before the chicks?

We're not sure, we thought maybe getting her once the coop was done would be best because she is getting pecked pretty much bald on her crest but it would be about two and a half months before the chicks would be ready to go outside so we're worried about her being lonely all on her own. What would you recommend?

Your chicken should be fine on her own for a bit, just make sure she's eating and drinking when you get her. :)

Hello! Welcome to BYC!! :frow

Good luck on your new adventure! Have you got your coop built/bought yet?

Feel free to check out the links below for some interesting reading.
We've started building and it should be done within the next week or so. We're just converting an old shed that we don't use so it hasn't been too difficult or expensive.

Ok, awesome, we'll probably just go ahead and get her once we're done with the coop and hopefully, she'll like being alone better than being picked on constantly. Thank you so much!
