I am a retired grandmother that took the plunge a little over a year ago and purchased 10 chicks from a hatchery. Since, then lost and replaced two. I caught the chicken math "bug" a couple of months ago and ordered 8 more (3 of which are silkies).
My 16 year old granddaughter and I built the coop and run! Coop turned out to be 6' x 10' (minus nesting box). The run is 10' x 16'. We are really proud of ourselves! Now, we are in the process of converting a small child's playhouse into a small coop with run for the silkies (and I hope one bantam hen that is always picked on by the others!). The chickens all have names and they are a delight to me every time I go to the coop. Wish I had done this sooner!
