Hello! It has been quite the interesting past 4 days. I was at the hospital visiting my niece who had brain surgery when a guy said he found young ducks walking in the hospital parking lot so he brought them to the park at the hospital, just across the street. My sister and I walk around the corner where he put them to see they aren’t ducklings, they are little chicks! Tired, scared and who knows how long they’ve been without care. After about 2 minutes I said to my sister, I have a grocery bag holder with dividers in my car, I’m taking them home. She was thrilled as she couldn’t take them. Needless to say, I’ve made several trips to the feed store and read a lot in the last few days. They are still alive!

Meet Dura the Golden Laced Wyandotte and Pia the EE. Just learned what breeds they are today thanks to this group. We are anxiously awaiting to learn what sex they are. Luckily we have friends who live on large farms who can accommodate cockerels/roosters if either or both turn out to be cockerels. I am foster mom for now until my niece recovers from her major surgery. She lives in an area where she can have chickens/hens. I cannot. She will take them once she’s able in a few weeks.

We are thrilled to have rescued these sweet things.

Thank you to this group. I’m learning and wow, is it fun to be a part of a loving and caring community!

Welcome to BYC glad to have you here! Congrats on the little chicks and good on you for rescuing them.

:welcome

Adorable chicks, kind of you to take them in until your niece can take them. Thanks for sharing them with us and thanks for joining!
We didn’t know what was going to happen. I called around and had a few people say they could take them, then my niece decided she wanted to keep them. This will be her first time caring for chickens. She’s pre-vet.

This should be a good experience to tie in with her future plans. Once she recuperates, maybe she should join BYC too. :)
