Washington… get Plymouth Barred Rocks. Very weather tolerant. And great egg layers.(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
A: I just bought a house in Seattle with an existing coop. I have very old dogs and they eat a lot of eggs because eggs are easy for them to digest. Since my new house has a coop, I’d love to raise hens and have fresh eggs.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
A: None - still doing my research. The existing coop can hold 4 hens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
A: NA. I’d like to get breeds that are typically friendly/social, and good layers, so doing my research right now.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
A: I don’t know yet
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
A: I adopt/rescue senior dogs, I enjoy having friends over for brunch and HH and BBQs.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
A: I have a grown daughter who is a vet tech, so she’ll be helping me with vetting the chicks. I’m an executive assistant and have been for about 25 years. We moved here from Arizona about 9 years ago.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
A: Someone told me about the site last night, so I looked it up and am hooked! I need to learn how to raise baby chicks, what needs to be done to rehab the existing coop, and how to take care of hens. Happy to be here!
