Hi! I am new to BYC(though I have read alot of info here prior to joining!) So helpful! I just raised 8 chicks from a couple days old- to now six weeks. We put them out in their coop a few days ago. All of mine are from tractor supply..4 tetra tints..2...silver laced wynadottes ...2 red sex links. The reds are the calmest ones. They are doing well but still al bit timid about going into their run. I gave them meal worms today- a big hit!
We have about 4 acres, w/ six dogs, 3 cats, 2 horses, a cockatiel , a tortuoise and the chickens! We live in Mt Airy MD, which is not far from Baltimore, and DC. I have a wonderful husband and 3 great kids - 2 boys and a girl- ages 11,11, and 14.
I plan to expand my yard so there is picket fencing around it so the chickens can come out of the run. We have seen fox here and a big hawk so we are going to be extra careful!

Nice to "meet" you all!

Here I am trying to coax chickens out of the coop!
Hi Anne

My wife, Paulette, and I just got chickens on 5 May and are loving it. I grew up with them in Texas and have been hoping to get the chance to do it again and Walla! the city of San Diego allows up to 5 hens per household now. Of the 5 we have, 3 are old enough to lay and have produced 18 eggs since we have them. Will take some pics to post.

Good luck with your barnyard projects.

Welcome Anne and Rick ! I hope you will like this site and Raising Chickens as much as I do ! I learn something new here ever day . Or atleast read something that gives me cause for pause . You will find lots of different oppinions as There is more than one way to happily raise Chickens .. Enjoy your Flocks !
