I wouldn’t do this. The chicks will pick at the styrofoam and eat it which is not good. A large plastic bin with a screen cover or a large dog crate would both work really well.

thank youWelcome to BYC. I started with adults, but if starting over I'd start with chicks. I only have one of my old girls left but she has blessed me with a multitude of chicks in her time here.
A cat carrier is too small though and you can't see them well enough, in my opinion.like cat carrier ? hmm this nice idea

This is the dog crate idea, then use cardboard or towels to cover two or three sides depending where you have it, to prevent drafts and close it off so they feel more cozy.

The tub idea, is something like this with a screen on the top.

For any idea you use, you'll need a heat source on one side, and the food/water on the other where they can also get away from the heat.
