Hi! I am new member, 23 age in MA Holland I want to learn and start raising chickens.

Welcome to BYC. I started with adults, but if starting over I'd start with chicks. I only have one of my old girls left but she has blessed me with a multitude of chicks in her time here.
thank you :) What breed of chickens do you have and what are the weather conditions? I'm thinking of Australorp or Rhode Island Red.

Australorps , I've heard they're comfortable indoors and can withstand cold weather.

like cat carrier ? hmm this nice idea
A cat carrier is too small though and you can't see them well enough, in my opinion.

This is the dog crate idea, then use cardboard or towels to cover two or three sides depending where you have it, to prevent drafts and close it off so they feel more cozy.

The tub idea, is something like this with a screen on the top.

For any idea you use, you'll need a heat source on one side, and the food/water on the other where they can also get away from the heat.

Hi! I am also a newer chicken owner, but from my work with them, it is best to have a minimum of 3; I've been told the sweet spot is 4 or 5, as you will likely lose a chick within the first year.

My suggestion is, if you have a hatchery or farm near you, try to find baby chicks - they will be much easier to handle and less flighty as they grow up (hopefully). It is really frustrating trying to handle a pullet that is terrified of you.

Regarding breeds, The Featherbrain blog or BYC is an excellent resource for information on chicken breeds and what would work best for you based on your various needs/wants out of a breed. :)
