I have just brought two brown hens for my chicken coop and are waiting on the clucking and collecting to begin, just have to give my hens some names :) I have had chicken before in a much lager pen
But I moved and now have just a smaller one to help with scraps of food and collecting the eggs. How do I put my profile picture up?

I just brought two brown laying hens? Does that mean they are laying or about too? Also the guy said that chickens can't be on their own because they stress out and die, is that true? An how high can chickens fly?

I dont think thats true? I had a rhode island red for 2 weeks and nothing happened. But they're better off with a friend otherwise they can get a bit lonely.

If he said the hens are at point of lay, means they are laying. most chickens start laying at the age of 21 weeks, but it depends on their species.

Chickens can fly, my chicks fly onto everything. From pots to tables. when hens fly, it all depends on their species and weight. for example, I have a LIGHT araucana, she can fly onto tables, and i also have a HEAVY rhode island red, she can only fly into pots. so everything all depends on their species, age and weight.

If you dont want them to fly, click in the learning centre section on BYC, then click 'maintaining a healthy flock'. on the left list, it should say 'how to clip and trim chickens wings to prevent them flying'. if you clip their wings, they wont fly well or not so high.

Hope my info helps

If you have your chickens in a run, you can cover it with wire or deer fencing to keep flyers in and hawks out. The bad thing about wing clipping is they lose major predator
protection by not being able to fly away.

I agree. If you do clip their wings they wouldn't be able to fly to protect themselves. Just make sure you have high fences.

I dont clip my chickies wings, we have a stupid black cat that always comes in our yard and spys on them.
