Hi I am new to the forum and almost new to chickens..

Hello and welcome to BYC!

thanks so much everyone..so nice to be soooo welcomed.... i appreciate it very much.. i will enjoy and be part of the forum with my peeps for sure!!! I have lots of little questions... one is about winter.. do chickens lay in the winter.. i don't remember collecting eggs when it was cold.. thanks again.. Lizz

Most chickens slow production in winter due to decreased light hours. Some folks install lighting in their coops to keep production up, but I think they deserve a bit of a rest. They can also stop laying during a molt.

Some breeds do lay in the winter though, my sex links have been known to keep going right through their molts.

The youngest hens have been getting lazy recently though. :P
