I am not sure if I am doing this correctly but here it goes! I have only had my 3 hens since june. One of them has been molting (i believe) for maybe a month and a half. It has started getting really cold around here ( i had to thaw water this morning) and this morning gloria the molting hen had some whitish looking almost powdery stuff on her comb and face. Is this frost bite? something else scary? The other two look great and are still laying. Also gloria sleeps in her nesting box by herself since her molting has started. Any one have advice?
Yes, pics, definitely. When mt RIR got frostbite on her comb it turned black on the tips. It got better over the summer. If the h2o is freezing then obviously the coop is too. I'm not sure where you live but @ altitude in Colorado it can get downright sick crazy cold. My girls are spoiled rotten and the heaters go on whenever it dips below freezing. Welcome to BYC!
