(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I just got my first chickens about a week ago Sunday and I'm in love. They're my little pets and hopefully butt-nugget producers.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have nine babies right now. May of gotten carried away cause they're all so darn cute and personable.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 9 different chickens each with their own names already.
Blue- Sapphire Gem
Delta- Golden Laced Wyandotte
Echo- E.egger
Charlie- Buff Orpington
Whiskey- Red and Blue Wyandotte
Tango- Bar Rock
Foxtrot- Grey Dorking
Zulu- Giant Black Cochin
Fubar- Dark Brahma
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Honestly I really love how they're able to calm me down just watching their antics right now. I'm hoping they'll keep the bugs under control in my yard too
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have an old truck I'm currently restoring and training my Akita. I also breed Fancy and feeder mice/rats this started out as a way to feed my ball pythons and I grew to enjoy it more than the original purpose. The things my husband has to put up with. They're a whole new ball game. I heard chickens will chase and eat a mouse if given the chance?

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have a mini zoo, complete with a 3 year old human, an American Akita, 3 indoor cats, a chinchilla pair, a red Tegu (think giant lizard),a few ball pythons (with 9 eggs in the incubator), and a boa. And now these little guys.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was looking for answers about some questions I have and found this community. I hope someone will be able to assist me with them before I do anything to potentially cause my peeps harm. Mostly pertaining to the light I got them I thought it was a red one and it's a purple-ish type one. That isn't giving much light off but plenty of heat. I still have a thermometer in there measuring it. I attached a picture of it I think.

Or am I misunderstanding your question...are you asking about the color?
Which color is better?

Yes, I tried to get a red one, and accidentally got a purple one. I just want to make sure they're going to be okay with it.

They don't care what color it is. ;)
