Hi, dear hubby and I bought our first chicks today at a semi-local feed store. They are Ameracaunas. We bought 4 to start with and may decide to add another 4 Plymouth Rocks early next week. We live in the county, so don't have to worry about city ordinances, just the HOA, which seems to have taken the no livestock rule out of the deed restrictions from what I can tell. Anyway, we have a neighbor that is doing chickens so I'm guessing that it's okay.

Looking forward to participating here,

Thanks,

Janet

Hi Janet and family!

,
Good to have you here. We have threads (discussion) for your breeds as well as a fine "raising chicks" forum. If you want green eggs, buy a Marans or Welsummer hen and put your blue egg siring Ameraucana boy over her. The daughters will lay the prettiest green eggs!
Both of those breeds should be entertaining and fun!

I know your Plymouth rocks will lay a a light to medium brown egg, maybe with a touch of pink. Bred to the Ameraucana, that will give light green eggs. The darker the brown egg genes , the darker the green egg the daughters will lay. That's why I mentioned the Welsummer and Marans who carry the dark brown and chocolate egg genes. Certainly the light green eggs are every pretty too. I just didn't know how much tint you were looking for in the green eggs if you decide to go that way.
