Hi,
I'm Alo, and I'm here because I just decide to add a flock to the old hen my neighbor gave me.
I raised 10 Buff Orpingtons, once upon a time... They killed my garden, and the neighbor's dog killed them.
Because they're harder to catch, have a better feed to egg ratio, and can't damage my garden as bad, I want smaller birds~
Because they need to protect my flock, I want bigger Roosters~
I'm planning on dwarf sex links between Olandsk Dwarf hens to a few breeds of large birds, like Bresse, Swedish Flower Hens, and Deathlayers...
My plan on breeding is to get birds that are sex-linked for size: so I can get big meat birds guarding small hens that are good egg birds, and color sex-linked too: so I can tell who's who in the zoo as soon as possible, and not feed any more big meat birds than necessary.
I also live in the Hawaiian rainforest, where we got 52 inches of rain in 24 hours last year (For perspective: Marans are supposed to do well in wet weather; because they come from a place that gets 24 inches of rain per year.) so good rain tolerance is a plus; does anybody have recommendations for rain tolerant birds?
If anybody is breeding dwarf sex links from Olandsks or bantams, or breeding any other sex links, they know more about it than me; and I'd really appreciate any knowledge you'd like to share.
In advance, Mahalo nui loa for your mana'o. Aloha
