Hi guys!
My name is Elizabeth. My husband and I live in Austin, TX with what we lovingly/jokingly call our mini farm.
We adopted our first chickens about two years ago. The former owner had no idea of age but we are guessing about 5-8 years according to our vet.
We lost one of our loves ( Clara) to Egg yolk Peritonitis about a month and a half ago which was heart breaking. Our remaining hen (Rhode Island Red) named Lauren was so totally depressed that we had to take immediate action and after some research we decided to raise a couple of day old chicks.
Valentina (Tina) is now a month old Blue Andalusian and Bernadette (Bea) is a month old Dominique. Both are growing like weeds and we are anxiously awaiting confirmation of sex. They recently have been introduced with supervised play times to Lauren and thankfully Lauren has finally started vocalizing again and has started perking up quite a bit in the past two weeks. She now comes running every time they come out to play which makes me so happy! We totally love having these little chicks and have found it to be incredibly rewarding. It's so hard not adding more to the family already
My husband and I love having our little flock in the heart of Austin. We both were born and raised here and after moving away for college etc we quickly found our way back home. We love to travel, we play coed softball with a big group of friends and we frequent the many new restaurants popping up all over the city.
Along with our chickies we have a 11 year old Siamese cat named Sua Lek, a 10 year old dachshund "Lola" and a 3 year old Border Collie named Rue.
I've read so many helpful posts since adopting Clara and Lauren and have gained some much info since getting Tina and Bea that I decided I needed to go ahead and start a profile so I can keep track of everything and ask any questions that may pop up!
Thanks everyone for being such a great community! I look forward to interacting with everyone. I know I still have so much to learn but hopefully some of my experiences so far can help someone else along the way.

Lauren and Clara - No photos uploaded yet of Tina and Bea but I've got tons on my phone.

Rue loves watching the chickies out back.
