Hi guys!

My name is Elizabeth. My husband and I live in Austin, TX with what we lovingly/jokingly call our mini farm.

We adopted our first chickens about two years ago. The former owner had no idea of age but we are guessing about 5-8 years according to our vet.

We lost one of our loves ( Clara) to Egg yolk Peritonitis about a month and a half ago which was heart breaking. Our remaining hen (Rhode Island Red) named Lauren was so totally depressed that we had to take immediate action and after some research we decided to raise a couple of day old chicks.

Valentina (Tina) is now a month old Blue Andalusian and Bernadette (Bea) is a month old Dominique. Both are growing like weeds and we are anxiously awaiting confirmation of sex. They recently have been introduced with supervised play times to Lauren and thankfully Lauren has finally started vocalizing again and has started perking up quite a bit in the past two weeks. She now comes running every time they come out to play which makes me so happy! We totally love having these little chicks and have found it to be incredibly rewarding. It's so hard not adding more to the family already

My husband and I love having our little flock in the heart of Austin. We both were born and raised here and after moving away for college etc we quickly found our way back home. We love to travel, we play coed softball with a big group of friends and we frequent the many new restaurants popping up all over the city.

Along with our chickies we have a 11 year old Siamese cat named Sua Lek, a 10 year old dachshund "Lola" and a 3 year old Border Collie named Rue.

I've read so many helpful posts since adopting Clara and Lauren and have gained some much info since getting Tina and Bea that I decided I needed to go ahead and start a profile so I can keep track of everything and ask any questions that may pop up!

Thanks everyone for being such a great community! I look forward to interacting with everyone. I know I still have so much to learn but hopefully some of my experiences so far can help someone else along the way.

Lauren and Clara - No photos uploaded yet of Tina and Bea but I've got tons on my phone.

Rue loves watching the chickies out back.

Hi Elizabeth, really enjoyed your intro. I think you are gonna need a bigger couch. Glad Lauren is feeling more like herself. Chickens do form attachments and get depressed when one dies or is rehomed. Look forward to seeing you additions when you have a chance to photograph them. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Hi :welcome Elizabeth

Glad you could join the flock! I have really enjoyed reading your intro and looking at your pics. Sorry to hear you lost Clara :hugs Its always very upsetting when a flock member is lost, I know just how you feel. Great to hear Lauren is feeling better now you have Tina and Bea I'm sure she will be most happy when they are all together full time.

Your couch looks a little like ours, more of an animal bed and no room for us :gig A bigger one certainly needed as drumstick said!

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future, be sure to ask any questions. Everyine here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC :frow

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to BYC!

Loved your intro and pictures, it looks like you have a wonderful home for your 2 & 4 legged kids. I'm sorry to hear you lost a girl to egg peritonitis. We lost one earlier this month to the same thing, and it is very hard.

I LOVE your avatar! So colorful. And your other pictures you shared are great too. Love the last one of the two dogs and cat. They sure look cozy. My dog is a big couch potato too!
