I love to explore and I'm an Oregonian. Hence the name.
Things I like:
My kids.
Humor in irony.
God's food. (Free food that comes to me in spite of little or no effort on my part. Stuff like blackberries, dandelions and eggs.)
Chocolate. Mostly milk chocolate, but I'll take what I can get.
Chemistry for practical use and amusement.
Food preservation. (Canning, pickling, freezing, dehydrating, smoking.)
Local history.
Folk art and folk songs.
Homesteading skills.
Hunting, fishing and foraging.
Baby Chickies.
Gardening.
Sewing.
Knitting.
Felting.
Barbecues and other traditional family activities.
Camping.
Fancy hotels with pools, hot tubs, room services and spas.
Hiking.
Shopping.
Dancing.
Things I don't like:
Getting older.
Paying Bills.
Panty hose for their intended purpose.
Slugs.
Fried clams.
Raw oysters.
Uncomfortable shoes.
Deciding what's for dinner.
Washing dishes
Sorting socks.
Allergies.
I'm married, middle aged and I have a couple kids. My family has decided that it's time to progress in reverse. The modern world is too expensive for us. Currently we heat with wood. Our hunting, fishing and foraging gives us enough meat for most of the year, but during the summer, we always run out and have to buy meat for a couple months until fall. I decided to start raising chickens this year for a few reasons: Help eliminate the slugs and bad bugs in the garden; to have a steady supply of eggs during the months we run out of meat, and if I can keep myself from getting too attached, for chicken meat too. We'll see how the last part goes. So far, every time I've Google searched a chicken question, the best answer/advice has been from BYC. It just seemed the right thing to do by joining this group. Well, that's me. I'm looking forward to hearing from others who share my interest in chickens.
