I’m farm folk (kinda) but I don’t “dispatch” my unruly birds. I do my best to train them. Or they train me (which ever):idunno
My uncle had a poultry farm & my folks raised animals for food & eggs. They loved their animals & treated them well & provided safety w/a barn & fenced pens for ducks/chickens. The large geese were wonderful guard geese & smartly stayed on the property & were not wanderers the way ducks & chickens are. Dispatching was done quickly/humanely. It's not an easy task but that was what real farmlife was for centuries.

But DH's & my hens are raised as pets & the 5 we rehomed over the yrs went to a couple friends who did not eat them but gave them forever homes. We even got to visit them.

Yes, I assumed a fake video... but chickens are depicted as less than what they really are. & many times they are purposely frightened by careless humans.

Just about any movie with chickens show them being scattered as a vehicle or horse actually gallops thru a flock & scares them silly getting scattered, flapping, & jumping in fright. No regard for them except as a an atmospheric joke.

Yes, they are humorous to own/watch but by their own natural way & not as the brunt of abuse. Some of us owners hate to see the meanness of our chickens toward their flockmates, yet don't consider that human behavior/abuse toward animals is much more misplaced. There are humane ways to depict/respect animals... even the ones used for food.

Poor Myrtle had no choice either. I guess she had to sink or swim to survive drops from 300 ft, get shoved in a soldier's backpack, & then eventually get killed by a bullet. She had no choice. The only positive I see is that her body in the backpack stopped the bullet that might've saved the soldier from being hit:idunno.
She was somewhat honored in naming a beer but its not a flattering label?

JMHO💕

I would say the artwork is to mimic that which one me would see back in the day.

But do any of us really have any say in anything? For instance no asked me if I wanted to be born into a fisherman’s family and have to work my butt off - I’d rather be fabulously wealthy and sit on a lawnchair watching my horses and chooks! But my choices were to work hard to make money to do this.

I am betting Myrtle had a far better life with the Tenth than other chickens would have had back in the day. And I am fairly certain the soldier would have been heartbroken to know he had caused her death. Life was tough is tough as you know.

I don’t ask my horses if they want to go riding or to a horseshow. But they follow along with my expectations. Same with my chooks.

But I do agree with the galloping horses senselessly through a flock of chickens - that is just annoying to see. And why my chooks aren’t allowed out with my crazy horses!

Sometimes I am so disappointed in my chickens. They have been so mean to Tilly that she was too afraid to come in out of the rain today.

The big girls were in the big run.

Niamh was in the porch talking to Tilly. Tilly came over to the porch but would not go in. She is too afraid of Aster and Lady Featherington to be in the same small space with them.

Why do they have to be so darn mean? 😢
Poor Tilly - she just looks miserable there....I hope daddy/Big Rooster saved her!
