Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping you might find helpful. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center If you have specific breeds in mind, many of them have their own threads in the Breeds, Genetics, and Showing forum www.backyardchickens.com/f/14/breeds-genetics-amp-showing And it is always fun to check out your area thread for chicken keeping neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/595787/chicken-breeders-or-folks-in-south-africa/0_20

Welcome to BYC!

And congrats on your first flock! You may need to get your cock more hens as he can mate her to death, depending on his vigor. Generally 1 rooster to 10 to 12 hens is a good ratio. So keep an eye on your hen and rooster. If she starts to get bare spots on her back, he is over mating her.

Definitely stop by our learning center here on BYC for lots of great articles on caring for your new birds. Kelsie has left you with the link.

Welcome to our flock!
