(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am new to chickens although my husband grew up on a farm and has experience with chickens. We are picking up our chicks on April 27th, 2019.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We ordered 10 chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

We got all hens. 2 Easter Eggers, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Blue Orpingtons, 2 Blue Laced Red Wynadottes, and two Gold Lacked Wynadottes. We were looking for docile and friendly breeds that were also decent egg producers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I don't know yet because this is new to me, but I'm very excited to meet our new chicks! I guess I'm most excited about building a relationship with them and seeing what their personalities will be like. :)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

We just moved to our farm, so my hobbies lately have changed a bit, haha. I do oil painting and make sculptures from metal and found objects. I love being outdoors and going camping. I'm an avid reader and get lost in books occasionally. I also keep a backyard garden during the growing months and do canning and preserving. Now we will have a much larger garden. :)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Right now it's just my husband and I, but we share the farm with friends who are also raising their own chickens, goats, and horses. We have 4 cats! I have one daughter and she's all grown up. I work for the superior court of california, but may leave to work on our farm full time once it gets going.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found BYC by doing extensive research on raising chickens over the last few weeks. The site kept popping up and had a lot of great information from experienced people so I decided to join. :)
