I am in the Upstate of SC. I am trying to start my second small flock of layers. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 chicks that I bought turned out to be roosters. So, now I have one hen left. I am looking to get 3 or 4 pullets. My first flock was Golden Comets and they were great layers! But I am open to all other breeds as well.

Hello and Welcome to BYC. I'm glad that you have joined this community.

Look at Barred Rocks, White Rocks, Speckled Sussex, New Hampshire Reds. Strains that don't lay as much but they should have a lot less female problems as the high product factory type layers. Even White Giants if you want t hatch some meat chicks. I'd get two strains of pure brown egg layers and then if you want meat bird they could be cross bread for a dab of hybrid vigor.
