Hi New Chicken Friends!
Quick update and a confession - I’m totally shamelessly smitten. Can and have sat in our run for hours just watching, talking, singing and smiling. Who knew?! I’d never even picked up a chicken before. They’ve been with us 10 days and they know me, my voice (and silly morning call), recognize the little bedtime “treat” container (crazy for raisins), go in & out of coop on own and quickly took to Grandpa’s feeder. So smart! My Lavender Orpington “Heather (with one feather on foot) hops on my sad leg (broken as of yesterday - yup immobilized, crutches, surgery next) and stares. So does Barred Rock “Dottie”. Little freaky, those chicken stares, I must admit. Anyway… so grateful for having them with what lies ahead this summer.
Had a hawk sit nearby checking them out and my Easter Egger “Jilly Bean” (such a pretty one) ran to the run door and stood like a statue on guard as the others ran for cover. Amazing… we’ll see who emerges as flock Queen.
Hope you’re loving your girls today too. Somehow I just know you are.
Kathleen
