Hi, Im Laura. New yo BYC

Hiya, Laura, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Be sure to check out our Learning Center as you'll find tons of helpful articles there about raising chicks and chickens.

As for hatcheries, there are many that are reputable. Cackle and Myers come to mind, but other folks can recommend others.

If it's not too late to change your coop you're building, you might want to build it a little bit larger due to chicken math. :)

Each adult chicken will need 4 square feet of living space inside of a coop, and 15 square feet each in a run. This ensures they stay healthier, less likely to pick on each other, and less squabbles amongst them.

Thank you! We just outlined the coop. Have not begun construction yet, so perfect timing! For the run we are using an extra large green house that we are converting to a chicken run. It's pretty big! 😀

The tarp for a greenhouse we use to cover a growout pen that we reinforced with 1/2" hardware cloth. We got the tarp from the neighbor who only wanted the frame, so this was only tarp over a frame. If you have dogs or any wild animals in the area, many can get through that tarp, so you might consider making about a 3' hardware cloth fence to go around and act as the frame for the bottom. Then, if they claw through the tarp, you'll see they did that and couldn't get through to the chickens.
