Hi
I'm new to your site and have some chickens and I name my chickens which is weird to some people I know.
My husband and I live in an urban area so chickens are not very common, although I've found two
chicken owners recently in my neighborhood. It's interesting how you notice things when you have a connection to them.
Having a chicken was not my idea, it was Arnold's idea. I looked out my window one afternoon and saw a chicken in my yard.
I went out and said hi. It said hi (silently) and stayed. I named it Chicken Arnold. It turned out to be a hen.
Arnold loved my cat Isaac and the two were together constantly. After two years I convinced my husband to get Arnold
a chicken friend and we got Louise from the county fair. It was not love at first sight but it worked out. Then came Poppy and Melody.
Unfortunately a raccoon raided our yard after our dog died and killed my friend Chicken Arnold and a few others.
So we have a few new chickens and a nice coop now. We still have Poppy and now we have Puffy and her three chicks, Speckles, Spunky and
Spot. Puffy's mate (which was not planned either but turned out that way) was killed end of Dec.
We left three eggs for Puffy to nest and they all hatched Jan 21-22. End of chicken story.
But I do have a question. Spunky is looking very much like a rooster. Is it OK for chickens to inter breed? We are not that interested
in having more chicks but should something change we want healthy babies.
Sincerely
Arnoldchicken
