Hi I'm new!

I had Rhode Island Reds last time, I was thinking I might get Australorps this time around as we live in the Midwest and I think they should stand up to the cold winters fairly well. Also we want the chickens for eggs and I believe that they are excellent layers, If you have a suggestion I'm all ears though.
Australorps are my favorite breed. They are very weather and health hardy, live longer with less health issues than other production breeds. They are friendly and docile, if you give them attention as babies they can become quite affectionate. Great layers too. I love Aussies!! :)

Great! I only did a tiny bit of research and was mostly working from memory. I had spent a lot of time deciding what breed to get last time and ultimately decided on Rhode Island reds for two main reasons. One was that the were both good layers as well as meat. (I didn’t end up eating any of them though) and because I was able to get them easily. Australorps were my second choice so I figured I’d try them this time! Hopefully my husband follows through on this because I’m very excited to have chickens again! I think it would be great for the kids.
