Hi, I'm new

Glad to meet you, Jen, and welcome to BYC. You will just love quail (coturnix, right?). You have been given some good advice, and the quail forum is full of knowledgeable folks who are very generous about answering questions. Coturnix are so beautiful that I just love to watch them. And they mature incredibly fast.

Here is a great article on basic quail care by one of our quail gurus, Nabiki. If you like that, you can click on her name and see all her articles about quail. And here is an article, Common mistakes and how to fix them. It focuses on chickens, but is applicable to all poultry, including quail!

I recommend getting quail egg scissors. Quail eggs, while delicious, are quite small with a tough membrane. I don't think anybody can easily crack them like a chicken egg. The eggs are terrific hard boiled, though, and easy enough to peel that way. And they are fabulous as tiny deviled eggs. You only boil them for about 3 1/2 minutes, or else they get very rubbery hard.

To look for articles on your own:

A. Use the SEARCH button, but use the Advanced Search choice, and select ARTICLES at the top of the box. Just enter your keyword(s) and scroll through your results!

B. I find it helpful to notice the rating and reviews. All articles are by BYC members, and all the reviews/ratings are as well. The ratings help a newbie like me sort the most useful and reliable articles.

C. You can bookmark the articles or posts you think you want to refer to again using that bookmark icon at the top of articles or posts. You can find them again by clicking on your own avatar and looking at the list of bookmarks you have built up!

Best wishes from New England where we have a wind chill right now of minus 14F!

Welcome to the forum! I may not know much about quail, nor have I ever captured them, but I do know they're wonderful animals, very beautiful, and very interesting! There are many knowledgeable quail keepers on this forum, so I'm sure you'll get even more help than what you already have, and I wish you the best! Hope to see you around :welcome

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.
