Hi all,
I am a new member and would like to introduce myself. I have only had chucks for 4 years and am still learning lots about them. I have a small flock, only 12, and try to keep rare breeds as they need to be protected. However, I am also deeply in love with some breeds, particularly Pekins and Orpingtons, so leave it up to others to keep other rare breeds. I have 3 Orpingtons, 8 Pekins, and 1 Welsummer. We also have a cocker spaniel, a large cat of unspecified parentage, and a heap of tame 'wild' pheasants plus other wild birds. We live in a very rural area in North Yorkshire in England. We have 3 children, all grown up (well, in theory!), two of whom are now in London and the third still at home. Our dog is terrified of the chucks, having been pecked once (she is not the bravest little dog!) and our cat is brilliant with them. They regard him as a real friend as he comes to sort out the rats in the chicken pen! I have lovely photos of him sitting down with them all around him. He never touches them, knowing that they are pets. They never peck him, knowing that would be beyond rude!
