we have 12 chicks and they are now in their 240 sq st run with a 4x8 coop. the coop has a roost and 7 nesting boxes. I think that I's going to try the DLM but don't know what I need to do with the nesting boxes to get them ready for the girls? Any help with that and any advices to a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

You probaby won't need 7 nesting boxes.

The girls will probably all wait in line and use one! They're funny that way!

Welcome 12 birds and 240 ft in the run? Good for you!
I dont know what DLM is, but 7 nesting boxes is 3 or 4 too many.
The more they have available to them, the more they try to cram into just a few. Then eggs get broken and, well... lets not go there.

Advice? Only three pieces - -
1. Clean.
Make that your watchword. Keep everything spick and span. No mud, no muck, no filth or funkiness. Do that and you will solve 90% of your problems.
2. No overcrowding.
You've got a good start with all that space. Keep to it.
3. Simple.
Keep everything you do with chickens uncomplicated.
They are simple creatures, with simple needs - take your tip from them.

I have 10 hens and only 4 nest boxes. Sometimes there are 2 of them in one nest at a time. they don't seem to mind buddying up.
