Hi, Moving to House

Hi, I am moving to our house in Agate, looking for information on chickens as I have not had them in a long time . I know basic things,but don’t no breeds to get , for laying hens and ones hard for Colorado. I am retired,and my hubby will be retired again soon.

Most any breed will be good it depends a lot on their coop and run. If you get a lot of very cold weather in the winter months, breeds with combs closer to the head like Rose Combs are good but it really depends on the breeds you like. I have had several different breeds over the years and now raise both Rose Comb and Single Comb Rhode Island Reds, Rose Comb Rhode Island Whites, Single Comb White and Rose Comb Dark Brown Leghorns. Also, if your preference is bantam or large fowl and many of the large fowl breeds are also in bantams. Good luck and have fun...

Secondly, CONGRATS! Moving to a new home is SOO exciting, especially since you can get new animals! Since you live in pretty cold climates, I would recommend cold hardy birds! Also, another important thing in picking chickens, is there temperament!
