Hello my name is Jessica and in August 2014 my fiance and I bought our first house in Winsted, CT on 2 acres and was excited I'd be allowed to have chickens and ducks. In October 2014 I got my 1st 4 chickens from a friend who was looking to rehome a few that she had that were already laying after I expressed my excitement to be able to get chickens. I started with a Rhode Island Red, a Black & White Penciled Frizzle/Americauna mix that lays blue eggs, a Blue Favacauna/Easter Egger and a Partridge Feathered Easter Egger. This March 2015 I got 18 more chicks to add to my flock of various breeds after doing alot of research this past winter on various good egg laying breeds my favorite being my Buff Orpington because she's so friendly and affectionate. I've developed a knack for wing sexing determining the males and females. I'm looking forward to continuing to learn as much as I can about chicken keeping so I can be the best chicken keeper I can be for my flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You sure do have some nice breeds! Yes, the Orpingtons are going to be some of the more docile and friendly breeds. My Black Australorps are huge on the loving and lap sitting.

Make yourself at home here and we do welcome you to our flock!

Thank you for the welcome! I have a Black Astralorp too. I've nicknamed her Penguin because as a chick she looked like one, and even today her vocal sounds, sound different than your average chicken sounds lol.

Hi Jessica, welcome to BYC!

You have a nice mixed flock. I like mixed flocks too, it's interesting to see the differences, the pretty assortment of feather colors and of course the eggs.

If you like sexing chickens, you might like pitching in over on the breed/gender forum...there are a lot of folks that aren't sure what they have until their bird either crows or lays an egg:

Good luck to you with your flock, it's nice to have you join us!
