Hi, my name is Mandy, and this is my first year raising chickens. I have grown to love my chickens and the healthy eggs and meat they are providing my large family. My husband is a professional firefighter/paramedic here in Texas, and though I have a degree in chemistry, I am a stay at home wife of 4 beautiful children ages 11, 7, 5 and 1. We have started with our flock and a garden, and my goal in the next few years is to add a flock of guineas, turkeys and quail, along with a milk cow and meat rabbits. I would like to become as self sustaining as possible in the interest of money and sanity. My son has joined 4H and wants to raise chickens for them to show, (he caught chicken fever from me
) so any advice on raising show birds is VERY, VERY welcome. My husband put a lot of time and money into our pens and I am very proud of them! Any other advice from people in a similar climate like South Texas on raising birds would be great! Thanks in advance and I am excited to be here.
