I have never cared much for birds, but when my 7 year old ask if he could raise a couple of chickens my dh and I thought, "sure, why not, it could be very educational and he would have to be responsible for them, not us," Our 10 year old said she wanted several too so we ended up with 6 day old chickens from a fellow homeschooler. That was 6 months ago. The agreement was that we could return in cockerels since we couldn't have them in town. Well, 3 of them ended up being males so now I find myself ordering more so that the children will have and equal number. I restrained myself to only getting 7. What am I crazy? Now we're going to have 10 and honestly there are a number of others I'd like to order. Help! I'm hooked and I can't stop myself.

Welcome to the group Marye! I too am a chickenaholic and like wegotchickens my DH is also an enabler, but mine is also a supplier and builder. But, he will at times pull me aside if I he believes I have gone to far.

Hi Marye.....I too am a chickenholic...My DH is also an enabler. What started as " I only want 6 or 7 for eggs, just for us 2" Has so far, in 2 years, grown to 65 birds.....6 coops, 2 holding pens...and now Turkeys!! Woohoo!! what a rollercoaster ride!! I LOVE IT!

Oh, and 'wegotchickens' - how about turning the kids swingset INTO a coop??? I've seen some of those around here on the website.

My kids' neglected playhouse/slide/swingset is looking more and more like a chicken coop to me all the time. You know like in cartoons when the cat is really hungry, and he sees tweety bird, except it's not tweety, but a roasted tweety??
