So sorry for your losses.
1/2" hardware cloth over all openings, latches that a toddler couldn't open, a 2' predator apron to prevent digging and the coup de grace - plunk the whole works down inside an electric fence or poultry netting powered with a 10,000 volt charger. That is what I have and I've never had a loss. Even keeps the local momma black bear at bay.

I am so sorry for your losses. Definitely build a large protected run onto your coop. Predators are everywhere, when it's not safe to be outside, they can still enjoy time in a big outdoor run.
