Hello All and thank you for welcoming me into your community!
My name is Amanda and I live in Rhode Island. I am new to chickens, but my husband raised them as a child in the Dominican Republic (a huge difference from RI, I know). He brought home 12 ASI Browns and 1 RI Red (they accidentally stuck them all together in the same tin at the store). I found your forum when we found the red was not doing so well the first night and I thought she would die. From reading your forum I found she had a full crop? and I force fed her water and massaged it; now she's the craziest of the bunch!
I am a full time student, studying to be an ESL teacher, and have 2 children. My daughter is 6.5 and my son just turned 5. We have a 6 month old Mastiff/Lab mix puppy. In my not-so-spare time, I like to read historical and ethnic fiction, write short stories, and play with my dog and children. When I need to save my sanity, I do so with a good movie and a shot or two of some good tequila. My goal is to be mostly self-sufficient for veg/egg/meat in 3 years, probably a pretty lofty goal considering I still have at least 1 year of school left.
I hope to learn a lot from you all, and hopefully can return the wisdom in a couple years.
Cheers!
Amanda
