Thank you for letting me join :) My husband and I recently moved from Florida to Arkansas, with my Dad. We were graciously gifted 6 hens and a rooster, all Rhode Island Reds. They are an "older" flock who are training us 😂. We're hoping to expand the flock with younger layers and some meat birds. I look forward to learning from you all!

Nice to meet you! I’m new here, too, but everyone has been SO helpful! Enjoy your new adventure!

Welcome. Your chickens are very pretty. Please enjoy them. Older chickens are so much fun and are so loving. As far as adding younger chickens, please keep them in a different coop and run for at least 6-months. I say this because there are many diseases that will not be revealed with the typical 30-day quarantine. Older chickens that survive certain diseases (MG, IC, etc..), are still carriers and can give it to the younger chickens. 6-months is enough time to make sure this is not the case. Ask questions as needed. We are here to help.
