Hi, I'm Kara. I'm in Utah and am just starting this chicken fun. I've wanted them for years and finally decided to jump into it. I only planned to get 3-4, but when I sent my husband too the feed store to look he came back with 8 chicks lol. A few days later he had to go back for something and brought home 2 more! Unfortunately the next day our dog got one (knocked over my son as he was about to put his favorite back in the brooder, very traumatic for him), so he took our son to pick out a new one and came home with 2. So we have 11 chicks, about 3-4 weeks old now. 1 australorp, 2 black sexlink, 2 buff Orpington, 2 white leghorn, 2 Rhode Island Red, and 2 Easter eggers.
I had no idea how fast chicks grow! They are quickly getting too big for our brooder so we are trying to decide on buying or making a coop, probably buying because of convenience lol. Hopefully we'll have that soon so when the weather warms up next week we can get it up.
I've been reading here and other sites and already have learned a ton. And luckily we have neighbors with chickens and my aunt to ask for advice. I'm excited to be starting this adventure!
