Hello all!! I am new here, so excited to be apart of this community! I have a little bit of experience with hens and raising them as I would visit grandparents throughout the year down in MO who had a flock of about 20 ladies but that was years ago!! Looking to get my own flock started here in the coming weeks! Any and all advice is very well appreciated!!

That's exciting! I wouldn't start out with a pre-fab coop, they just aren't good quality and are usually only big enough for one or three chickens. If you can build from scratch or convert a shed, that will be your best option!

For each chicken, you'll want minimum one foot of roost space, 4 square foot of coop space, 1 square foot of ventilation per bird in the coop and 10-15' square feet of run space if you will be keeping them in an enclosed run.

There is plenty of information in our Articles and Learning Center, and don't hesitate to ask any questions!

Thanks for joining and welcome to BackYard Chickens!
