I am brand new to everything chickens! We have 7 acres in Ohio and recently added 6 new chickens to our family. I have wanted chickens for quite a while and during a recent trip to TSC I managed to convince the fiancé that we should buy some!
On the way home with 6 Australorp chicks in a box on my lap (and a bunch of "stuff" in the back of the car for previously mentioned chicks) I had a moment of panic. I typically am the type who researches things for days/months/sometimes years before actually taking action. Now I had a box of chicks and no idea what to do with them!!!
After getting the chicks set up in their new environment (thank goodness the people in TSC told me what to buy!) I started to do some of the research that I probably should have done before I bought the chicks and I found the BYC site.
I am amazed at the amount of information I have found so far as well as by how helpful and knowledgeable everyone is on the site (and by the sheer number of coop designs - I cannot believe how creative people are!!!).
I am really looking forward to learning more and enjoying my chickens as they grow and start laying some eggs!
