How is hubby making the coop perfect? Lots of ventilation targeting 1 sq foot of year round ventilation per bird? 4 sq ft of floor space and 12" of roost space per bird? Lots of roost level windows that can be open during the summer and everything backed with 1/2" hardware cloth so nothing can get in the coop?

Welcome, I am also in Michigan and my Barred Rocks do well in our weather. They are cold hardy but also tolerant of the summer heat with some shade and water.
