Eggs and joy. I thought I could cull my roosters, but in the end I was a wimp and found them all homes.

That's culling them. Culling is removing from the flock, not necessarily killing them.

Welcome, I am also in Michigan and my Barred Rocks do well in our weather. They are cold hardy but also tolerant of the summer heat with some shade and water.

Hello. Thank you for your welcome. What part of Michigan do you raise your flock in, if I may ask?
We have decided on Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks. The time is nearing to pick up our chicks. I'm excited! Between the chickens and the gardens I'm full of spring fever.

I am near Grand Rapids. Enjoy your chicks. Such a fun time. We handled ours often, fed them treats by hand, and taught them tricks. They are the sweetest hens today. Our Barred Rock lays almost every day.
